Historical Photo Exhibition at Proserpine Entertainment Centre

Whitsundays Arts Festival is delighted to present an exhibition of historic photos kindly provided by long-time resident Peter Crossley and Silvio Balma. In line with the Festival theme ‘Memories’, we are hoping that these photos will evoke recollections of the “time before.” The photo exhibition can be viewed at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre during the weekend of the film screenings, 24-25 September.

CELESTE

Set in the bohemian world of opera, it is a story of a family falling apart coming together again and their last chance to keep a decaying world alive.

Celeste is a renowned opera diva who retired early for the man she loved to live on a crumbling and beautiful estate in the heart of a rainforest in Far North Queensland. Ten years after the tragic death of her husband, Celeste is about to return to the stage for her final performance. Her stepson Jack, still haunted by the past, arrives admidst the perparations for the performance and finds Celeste is as he remembered.

Celeste wants Jack to stay at the estate but needs him to perform one last request.

PARALLEL MOTHERS

Film & Arts Mackay and Whitsundays Arts Festival bring the Mackay International Film Festival to Proserpine with the critically acclaimed Spanish drama PARALLEL MOTHERS by award-winning director Pedro Almodovar. In PARALLEL MOTHERS, Almodovar continues his fascination with the joys and complexities of motherhood in his seventh collaboration with Penelope Cruz . This engrossing and vibrantly shot melodrama about two very different women whose lives intersect when they give birth on the same day is a beautifully constructed story full of twists and turns, some predictable, others not. And with outstanding cinematography, musical score and costume design, we are in for an unmissable experience.

”Almodóvar delivers an emotional bundle of joy”. 5 stars. The Guardian
