Memory Mandala

  • Whitsundays Arts Festival Shute Harbour Rd Airlie Beach, QLD, 4802 Australia (map)

Join artist Mary Ann Santin to create a community memory mandala on the beach in this free event for all ages.

Tibetan monks, North American shamans, Japanese Shinto priests, Vikings and the Celts are some of the many cultures throughout time that have used rocks as ephemeral sculptures to shift energy and mark moments in time.

Participants can create their own rock arrangement or contribute to a community memory mandala. Choose rocks gathered from the foreshore, make an inscription, and arrange to celebrate a memory, time, or place. The works made on Sunday will shift by nature’s tides.

Then come back at a later time to see how the arrangements have moved and changed.

Mary Ann Santin is an Adelaide artist whose artwork expounds themes of memory. She will be available to describe how memory can inspire and assist in the creation of sculptural and visual forms.
