En Plein Air Painting Workshop with Sophie Perez

A$30.00

ARI Whitsundays and Whitsundays Arts Festival are pleased to present an artist talk and arts workshop with visiting artist-in-residence Sophie Perez at Gloucester Sport & Recreation Association in Hydeaway Bay on Saturday 31 October, from 9am to 1pm.

The morning will begin with an artist talk, with Sophie discussing her creative practice and approach to painting the landscape. She will then demonstrate mark-making techniques and working directly from observation before leading participants outdoors for an en plein air painting session.

En plein air painting is the practice of painting outdoors, working directly from the landscape and responding to its changing light, colour and atmosphere.

Sophie’s practice is closely connected to landscape and everyday life. Her paintings explore the shapes, colours, textures and atmosphere of the places around her, drawing on observation and mark-making to convey a sense of place.

This hands-on workshop is an opportunity to spend time painting alongside Sophie, explore her approach to working from the landscape and develop your own response to the Whitsundays. The workshop is suitable for artists and art enthusiasts of all experience levels.

Some materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their own preferred medium if they would like to work with something specific.
