Sand Casting Workshop with Peter Syndicas

ARI Whitsundays is proud to announce a Community Artist Forum and Arts Workshop with Artist-in-Residence, Peter Syndicas, to be held at the Gloucester Sports and Recreation Centre in Hydeaway Bay on Saturday 27 September from 9:30am to 12:30pm. This event will offer local artists and art enthusiasts an opportunity to participate in a dynamic discussion and hands-on sand-casting workshop, facilitated by Peter. Topics will include the intersection of art and environment, the creative process, and strategies for engaging with public art projects.

Bring your own twig, coral, or washed-up flotsam (palm-sized) for the sand-casting process. All other materials are included.

Participants will have the opportunity in this community arts workshop to engage with an award-winning artist to learn new techniques and create art inspired by nature.

About the Artist

For over 28 years, Peter Syndicas has crafted abstract figurative sculptures inspired by the intricate patterns of plant life. His artistic journey began with a chance discovery of a simple twig that resembled an abstract human form, sparking an ongoing exploration of the figurative in organic fractals. Twigs—fragile and shaped by the elements—served as the foundation for his larger works, which are translated into bronze, steel, and stone, offering a striking contrast to their natural delicacy.

Peter’s work is represented by galleries across Australia and held in private collections worldwide, including in Dubai, Singapore, and the United States. His art was recently featured in a commissioned series of large-scale sculptures for the Marina Bay Sands refurbishment in Singapore, further cementing his reputation on the international stage.

Today, Syndicas continues to explore his fascination with fractals in nature, drawing endless inspiration from the world around him.
