Whitsundays Songwriter Festival and Residency

The second annual Whitsundays Songwriter Festival and Residency will take place from 31 August to 4 September 2023 in the Topaz House at Yangaro Retreat in Airlie Beach, supported by the Whitsundays Arts Festival.

The Festival and Residency comprises a professional Songwriter Residential Retreat (31 August - 4 September), a one-day workshop event for emerging songwriters on Saturday 2 September, and an evening performance by the professional faculty at Paradiso on the Airlie Beach foreshore on Saturday 2 September from 5pm.

  • Established Songwriter Residential Retreat

    31 August - 4 September at Yangaro Retreat

    Songwriters will participate in a professional-level song writing retreat, connecting with other writers with the opportunity for co-writing and masterminding.

  • Emerging Songwriter One Day Workshop

    Saturday 2 September at Yangaro Retreat

    The professional faculty will mentor emerging songwriters during the Emerging Songwriter Workshop, culminating in a performance at Yangaro Retreat.

  • Concert & Conversation Dinner

    Saturday 2 September at Paradiso

    The professional songwriters will appear in an exclusive performance in the intimate setting of Paradiso Rooftop Bar & Restaurant.

Professional Songwriters

Professional Australian songwriters of diverse music genres have been invited to attend the 2023 Whitsundays Songwriters Festival and Residency as part of the mentorship program. Over three days the faculty will participate in a retreat, co-writing songs, networking, and sharing their personal experiences in the music industry. The 2023 faculty includes Toni Childs, Vika & Linda, Mark Sholtez, Karen Jacobsen, and Francesca de Valence.

The Residency will be led by Whitsunday Songwriter Festival and Residency co-founders Francesca de Valence and Karen Jacobsen.
